A Visit from SPAWAR's Dr. Evan Austin

The United States Naval Warfare Centers, Systems Centers, and Naval Research Laboratory are collectively known as the Naval Research and Development Establishment (NR&DE). Dr. Evan Austin, is a research scientist at one of the NR&DE's member laboratories, Space and Naval Warfare (SPAWAR) Systems Center Atlantic in Charleston, South Carolina.

He is visiting the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences (SCCS) to discuss possible research collaborations, or other types of partnerships, between SPAWAR and Augusta University. He will be presenting to the students and faculty of SCCS, but everyone is welcome to attend.

Biography

Since joining SPAWAR Systems Center Atlantic in 2015, Dr. Austin has served as the principal investigator on a number of internally and externally funded basic and applied research projects with the shared theme of high-assurance software and systems development. He also serves as the technical lead for SPAWAR Systems Center Atlantic's recently formed Automated Cryptology research and development team and as a member of their Science and Technology Advisory Council.

Dr. Austin holds Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in computer science, all from the University of Kansas. His primary research interests are applied formal methods and programming language theory.

Title: "From Academia to Government: One Researcher's Experience with the Naval R&D Establishment"

Abstract. This talk will provide an introduction to SPAWAR Systems Center (SSC) Atlantic including a high-level overview of its current science and technology strategy. Dr. Austin will communicate his personal experiences in transitioning from academia to government employment and share details of some of his current projects. The goals of this talk are to foster a collaborative relationship between SSC Atlantic and Augusta University while simultaneously answering any questions that attendees may have about government service.
